GRSM, ARCO, LRAM, ARMCM

Anthony Norcliffe, Director of Music at Mill Hill, was born in Leeds and hist highly acclaimed career teacher, solo organist, accompanist, choral director and college tutor has centred, largely, in and around his native city. His main musical education was at the Roy Manchester College of Music (now the Royal Northern College of Music), from where he graduated with honours and special merit.

For 29 years he was an esteemed school head of music, retiring from full-time teaching in 1989. During that time, he served for 23 years on the various school examinations panels of the Northern Universities Joint Matriculation Board.

A church musician for over 40 years' experience, Anthony's prominence in this capacity is well known and respected, particularly his prowess as an organ-recitalist, which is famed not only locally. He has over 500 such performances to his credit, including his annual Grand Summer Series of Organ Concerts.
The Organ in Mill Hill Chapel

Mill Hill Chapel houses one of the finest organs in the city. Its pipework is housed in twin chambers, occupying each side of the chancel. Built by Messrs. Norman & Beard in 1910, it has been skilfully enhanced and enlarged, under the supervision of Mr Anthony Norcliffe, by the firm of J.M. Spink & Son, to produce a splendidly comprehensive instrument of 53 stops, well suited to producing the sound-colours, for any period of organ music appropriately and effectively.

Its magnitude, impact and majesty in terms of full organ is, indeed, thrilling, though its thoroughly versatile palette of individual colours and combinations of such is equally exciting and fascinating. Of course, the instrument is in regular use in its accompanying role, but its capacity as a solo instrument attracts a wide and very appreciative public.
